setscene bedroom sets

Legacy

14.300+ Movie sets out of 300 films of cinema history
setscene helped getting acquainted with movies in a new, innovative manner: Where are scenes of comedies or horror movies set? Do some directors prefer specific sets, locations, settings? Which movies have been set in trains, a skyscraper, a wine cellar, etc.? The sets are structured by semantic categories. The interior or the set of the particular movie will be shown as a still.

Please note: Unfortunately, the app is no longer available.

Teaser

Set will list all movie sets in alphabetical order. In addition the white arrows will show up a picker, which will offer further refinement of the search. If someone e.g. is looking for a set at a Café, the selected categories at the picker will state “Buildings” and “Gastronomy”. The result will list all available sets of this kind, including the requested Café. The numbers besides the found sets indicate the count of movies available at the chosen category.
Interior opens up a list of all available movie sets, which, in a broader sense, are set in an enclosed space. Because movie sets can often be assigned to a specific interior, this category is complex and comprehensive.
For this reason it’s got its own tab and provides fast access.

Detailed Explanation

The app has been available on the Apple App Store from 2012-2017 and went legacy.

Making an app for cinephile people (re)searching movies by sets, designs and locations has always been targeted a narrow audience. Neither the revenue from the App Store nor the research topic on how film sets have been used and evolved brought partners for a continuous funding. We now come to a halt with 301 movies of film history. These films have been analyzed over the years bringing us 14.397 single sets from 249 directors of 34 countries in 32 genres. Differentiated into 191 interiors and 314 types, 52 general usages and 6 main groups. I wrote some articles, how the usage of sets compared within a range of movies of various origin, genre and style can enlighten watching films.

Finally, I want to thank all the students who helped to bring this project to life, especially Chris Wolff, who is now a gifted programming Designer or gifted designing Programmer, depends on the day or client. Nico Marks developed the setscene back end as his bachelor thesis, but he died shortly after his B.A., which hit us like a stroke. For Nico and you, I roll out the complete list we’ve worked on.

Let’s see how many “bedroom” pictures I could add to the list below. Many.
214 of 301 analyzed movies have at least one bedroom set, many have several (indicated by that orange number).

Offering one screenshot and guiding you with the exact time code the set has its first appearance in the movie has been the service of setscene. We now leave you alone: can you identify which image belongs to which movie?
